Police charge man with attempted murder after Central Coast crossbow and axe attack

A laptop helped save the life of a 56-year-old man after a crossbow arrow was fired at him outside his house on the central coast.

The victim had walked out of his house into a driveway on Dawson Street, Somersby, about 1.30pm on Tuesday, when a 49-year-old man approached him with a loaded crossbow and shot it at him, police said.

The arrow hit the victim’s laptop.

The assailant then ran at him and struck him in the head with an axe, police said.

The men began to struggle before another man ran to help the victim. The two men were able to restrain the alleged attacker.

Police were contacted and officers from Brisbane Water Local Area Command arrested the 49-year-old.

He was in possession of knives, a crossbow and a piece of wire, police said.

The victim was taken to Gosford Hospital, where he received stitches to a head wound, before being released.

The alleged attacker was taken to Gosford police station and charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear at Gosford Local Court on Wednesday.
