Ms Keygan was one of five Australian demographers to attend the conference, and the only Australian PHD candidate to present her research.

Ms Keygan, a PHD candidate at Australian National University, returned from the conference recently.

“It was amazing. I got to meet with people who are leaders in my field and learn and ask questions about their research methods,” she said.

Ms Keygan said the conference had made her a better demographer.

“Having all these leading authors and theorists in the one place makes it an interactive, involved process,” she said.

“Atmospheres like that just breed collaboration of ideas and give opportunities for people to share their research.

“I was able to receive feedback on my research and will be able to make it much better and much more relevant to the fertility trends in Australia.”

Ms Keygan is on the organising committee for the Australian Population Association conference, to be held in Hobart in December.
