Beekeeper Adrian Iodice shows off a beautiful honeycomb from his beehive.THE Bega Valley Amateur Beekeepers Association (BVABA) has become incorporated after its meeting on July 8.
It is now associated with the NSW Amateur Beekeepers Club and its elected staff are Alan Drummond as president, Sue Coleman as vice-president and John Fuary as secretary.
Committee member Keith Coleman said the group is now up and running, and has 18 members signed on so far.
He said the group will have a lot to do with beekeeping education.
Leading into spring, the group will have lectures and talks about keeping bees, collecting swarms and the general basics of beekeeping.
At the next meeting Adrian Iodice will be talking about swarm collection, and there will be a discussion on the different styles of equipment to use.
“We are trying to introduce people to what’s out there,” Mr Coleman said.
He said BVABA is willing to look at all different styles of beekeeping.
“It is interesting looking at different ways to keep bees,” he said.
BVABA will be holding a training day as an introduction to beekeeping in October or November, at a date yet to be set.
The next meeting is open to anyone with an interest in bees and will be held on August 12 at the Old Bega Hospital at 7pm.
